Whenever I travel to some countries, I always come across an ideas like ‘what if I meet and talk to people with similar interests abroad?’ Also as a designer, I always dream of working and traveling at the same time. It would be wonderful if I can meet other designers in different countries to share ideas and work together. That was the start of the brand “ZAKKA.” ZAKKA is a cowering space highly focused on digital nomads and people on business trips. The brand name means a freelance designer or writer in Korean. It has a mobile application that offers a booking service and digital nomad community.
Roles: Brand Designer / Graphic Designer / Visual Designer
Logo
I came up with three different logos for ZAKKA. The first and second logos depicted a feather or wing which represents a free traveler. The third one has a patchwork that represents harmony people make from different backgrounds. I chose the third one and developed a more detailed one with various patterns and colours for each patchwork.
Brand Guideline
The compelling brand always has a consistent design rule and system and it makes people understand and recognize the brand more easily. For that, making the brand guideline is the key part and it even helps to apply the design rules to expanded brand assets. (e.g. application or website design) So I created ZAKKA’s brand guideline and it includes logo, typography, colour, stationery, and imagery guides.
Brand Assets
A strong brand has its own unique concept and style, and its characteristics are consistently applied to all brand assets. While creating this co-working space brand, ZAKKA, I expanded it to merch designs that symbolize the company's identity, including app and web designs for users to use.
Lessons
It was a wonderful experience to create my brand and expand it to multiple services. Being a graphic designer means we should become a generalist who can design not only print design but also web and app service design. Like ZAKKA, it could start from the specific space and it outstretches its identity to virtual service. Of course, it was very challenging to create all those design pieces from the logo to the app screen design but I could also learn how to keep consistency throughout the brand experience. I’m very proud of what I’ve done and excited to present my own brand to others.
